Monday, November 14th - 7pm

Mp900442346
At our November meeting we sure will be busy! We will have our Challenge Quilt and also have our 2nd Giant Fabric and Quilt Book Sale!  This is a great way for members to sell their “why did I buy that?” items or fabrics and books and quilt related tools that maybe they find they just don’t use as often as they had planned. We all can take advantage of some great bargains!  All members are welcome to sign up for a table. Sue Levin, Mary Grzybowski, Sue Edelman, Anne Cowan, Grace Smith, Lauren Dougherty, Joyce Hughes, Peggy Beerer and Mary Molettiere have all signed up for a table.  In addition we will have a table marked “Guild” in case you only have a few items and just wish the Guild to make the profits on those items.  (Please label the items for the Guild Table the same - with some information – example “3 yards for $5”)

If you plan on selling items at your own table, you will need to label (masking tape works fine) each item with your name and price and information (yardage, etc) and arrive no later than 6:30 so you can set up your table. If you plan on purchasing anything, please bring CASH – singles and fives really are best and make it a lot easier on the gals collecting.  We have Joan Logan, Carol Breinig, Lynn Holtzman, Lynne Tomiinson and Robin Abraham ready to add up your sales.  Also remember to bring your guild tote bag to take home all your goodies!

If you are entering a Challenge Quilt, please drop that off first with Gina!!

RAFFLE TICKETS

If you have not picked up your raffle tickets, you can do so at the November meeting.  If you miss this meeting, the tickets can be mailed to you or another member can drop them off at your house.  We really need full cooperation with the raffle ticket sales!  Every member needs to sell all their tickets! The monies raised from the ticket sales go to funding all the terrific speakers and all the fun events planned for you through the year!  Most of the guild members buy the tickets themselves and it is much appreciated!

DECEMBER MEETING PREVIEW

We have 3 wonderful demos lined up for our holiday meeting in December Demos:

Donna Steck will be doing a Demo that she and several of her quilt buddies taught themselves from an article in Fons and Porter called "Coiled Fabric Bowls". She also has a book entitled "It's a Wrap" which shows the same technique. This technique can be used to make fabric bowls, purses and baskets. She made a basket and will bring it as a sample. Donna says, it's also great way to use scraps, as long as you can sew them together to create 1 inch strips.

Joyce Hughes will be doing a demo on “Thread Painting an Art Quilt”, showing how the different threads create different effects. Many of us have seen Joyce’s award winning quilts and even some of us have taken a class from Joyce.  Come see her Demo her unique and interesting techniques.

Robin Abraham is doing a demo on kaleidoscope quilts but different than the one that Grace Katz showed us. This demo will be on the Ricky Tims' version of a kaleidoscope quilt!

HOLIDAY QUILT GIFT EXCHANGE

Remember to bring a wrapped quilt-related NEW gift for our holiday exchange valued $8-10.  Mary Molettiere has a fun way planned to share our gifts with each other and it is different than last year’s storybook reading.  Mary has this plan all “buttoned” up and ready to explain to you!  You are in for a fun night from beginning to end!

Shortcake

Monday, June 13th - 6:30!  (Note earlier time!!!)

It is time to celebrate the end of an amazing guild year! On June 13 at 6:30 pm the party begins followed at 7 pm with the Demos and Workshop portion of the evening. Don’t be late – you don’t want to miss a bit of it!

Gretchen Gibbons and Susan Albaugh will be leading us in a Wool Workshop. Wool is all the rage right now and after Gretchen’s inspiring quilts at the January meeting and Susan’s Best of Show quilt at our Challenge in November, we wanted our guild members to try their hand at a simple wool pincushion project that you should be able to complete (or almost complete – depending on how much chatting you do!) in one evening. We have kits made for you (through the generous contributions of Gretchen and Billijean) but would like YOU TO BRING: Chenille Needles (or something comparable), assorted sharp scissors for cutting both wool and paper. Please remember to label everything you bring with you! We would also like you to bring some patience and a good attitude!

While the Workshop is in progress we will also have 2 Demos. Barbara Harrison will teach us all about 18th Century Welsh and French quilting patterns and she will have a Show and Tell for us to enjoy and Gina Gempesaw will teach "needle felting".

Remember that Robin and Mary need YOUR help setting up tables and chairs at 5:45 pm. Please plan on coming early to give us a hand – it is much appreciated.

Meet Anna Faustino!

Faustino2

Monday, May 16th (Third Wednesday!) - 7pm

Anna's quilts are simply stunning!  Would you believe she only started quilting in 2004???

After moving to the US from Russia about 10 years ago, she drew on her extensive art background and eventually discovered quilting.  Drawing on her extensive art background, Anna has pushed the envelope in her quilts and developed a very innovative technique based on weaving fabrics and has recently published a book based on her techniques.  Join us for the the meeting and Anna will answer the question, "How did she do that???"

Poolepanda

Linda M. Poole will be joining us and her topic is “Quilted Journey Around the World”.  Buckle your seatbelts and sit tight for a global adventure without ever leaving your chair! Look at the world through the eyes of American and International quilters.  See what inspires quilters from travels abroad or within their own countries.  Visit Paris, Japan, the United States, Italy, Turkey and other countries.  And see how a photograph taken is translated into quilts.  You may be inspired to place your next destination into a quilt. You may have read one of her books, “Turkish Delights to Appliqué”, “Bended Bias Appliqué” or “Quilted Fairie Tales” Linda is a Nationally and Internationally know quilter, author, lecturer, designer and teacher – so pass it on and bring a friend or two as a guest to this meeting.  Invite members from other guilds too. Check out her website www.lindampoole.com. Linda will have items for sale so bring cash or a check and your CLQ tote bag to take your goodies home with you!

Please email marymolly@comcast.net or call 215-896-9226 if you would like to dine with Linda prior to our meeting.  We meet at 5 pm at the New Britain Inn which is across the street from the church hall.  All members welcome to participate in this fun, get-to-know the speaker dinner and get-to-know each other dinner.a

Redquiltshow2

If you missed the Red and White quilt exhibit at the American Folk Art Museum in NYC, the good news is that it will become a part of their permanent exhibit!  In the meantime, here's a little glimpse courtesy of Carol Russo (video) and Sue Albaugh's sister-in-law (photo).  Keep in mind this exhibit of six days duration (Sorry, it's over!) was FREE as a gift to the city!  Kind of makes you want to go out and buy some red and white fabric, doesn't it???  Thanks, ladies, for sharing!

What a great turnout we had for our first National Quilting Day event!  I especially wish to thank Barbara Lewis, Beryl Stine, Betsy Penzone, Billiejean Hobson, Carol Breinig, Carol Hoffman, Eileen Blazic, Gina Gempesaw, Helen Haun, Jeanne Malone, Joanne Angelo, Joyce Overberger, Kate Pearson, Kirsten Sarnese, Peg Mac Farland and Sue Levin for making the day special by donating their precious time to help others by working on charity projects. We spent the day sewing and chatting and getting to know each other better.  It looks like this could become an annual event. There were also comments made that we should have some workshops so look for that in the future too.  Come to the April guild meeting and see the MANY projects we worked on at a special “National Quilting Day” Show and Tell. Thanks again ladies - from Mary Molettiere

Cqw
Just in case you missed your opportunity to play "Who Wants to Win a Really Cool Queen's Crown" at our February meeting...we're giving you another chance!  Just answer our one simple question - at least for all of you who were customers at Country Quiltworks - and you'll win a fat quarter courtesy of CQW.  Just check in with Robin with your answer at the March meeting and collect your prize.  Sorry, no more crowns, but we think you'll probably be just as happy with a fat quarter.  Here's the question:

What was the CQW Bonus Card worth when it was filled?

  • A) $20 off
  • B) $25 off
  • C) 20% off an item
  • D) 25% off an item

See Robin at the next meeting to cash in!

And while you're here, we invite you to become a subscriber to our website blog.  All that means is that every time we post a new message on this blog, you'll receive an email so you'll know to check it out.  So, you'll hear right away about any last minute changes, or any fun info we put on the blog.  Sew...take a moment to sign up while you're here...another way to be a winner!

Jewelbox

Make this fabulous Jewel Box Quilt by Janet Wickell with a free pattern from about .com here!

You are invited to join your fellow guild members in a NEW event this year!  Our guild plans on celebrating “National Quilting Day” on Saturday March 26 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.  We will meet at the Lenape Valley Presbyterian Church where we hold our usual monthly meetings.  All members are invited and encouraged to attend.  All quilting and sewing skill levels will be needed.  The plan is to gather as a group and spend the day working on projects – together.  We can work on placemats, teenage quilts, baby quilts or whatever projects our Community Service Project chair people need help with completing.

As we work together (pressing, cutting, assembling, piecing, pressing, appliquéing, quilting, pressing, binding, etc.) we will be celebrating both the hobby that has brought us so much joy and celebrating the Guild that has brought us together as quilters! We are fortunate to have wonderful fabrics from Country Quilt Works that have been donated for our use which helps tremendously.

Please bring your sewing machine and either a bagged lunch/beverage or you can place an order for takeout at a place in the shopping center nearby. This way there will be no added work for Hospitality.

Please email Mary Molettiere at marymolly@comcast.net if you are interested and put "CLQ-Nat'l Quilt Day" in the subject line of the email.  More details will be presented at the February meeting.
